Seismic reliability implied by behavior?factor?based design

چکیده
Force-based seismic design involves the reduction of elastic spectra by introducing a behavior factor, q. This approach is widespread in engineering practice; however, recent studies have shown that structures consistently designed at different sites will not share same level risk, which can be defined as annual rate structure failing to meet performance objective, despite actions having exceedance return period all sites. paper investigates whether definition site-specific q factors lead uniform risk across characterized varying levels hazard, based on pushover curves bare frame reinforced concrete buildings. These are used establish backbones equivalent single degree freedom systems with lateral resistance. fictitiously placed several Italian and their failure computed integrating fragility, assessed means incremental dynamic analysis, each site's hazard curve. By assuming an arbitrary threshold, for sites, corresponding strength leading said threshold determined factor back calculated. As expected, risk-targeted tend increase decreasing highly sensitive shape curve beyond period. Coupled fact low detailing gravity-load minimum code requirements, rather than actions, results suggest factor-based unsuitable warranting territorially safety, yet it may suitable setting upper-bound probability.

Implied preference for seismic design level and earthquake insurance.
Seismic risk can be reduced by implementing newly developed seismic provisions in design codes. Furthermore, financial protection or enhanced utility and happiness for stakeholders could be gained through the purchase of earthquake insurance. If this is not so, there would be no market for such insurance. However, perceived benefit associated with insurance is not universally shared by stakehol...
متن کاملReliability-based Design of Seismic Retrofit for Bridges
This research focused on developing reliability-based seismic retrofit assessment procedures for highway bridge columns. Fragility curves were developed to assess the relative performance of various retrofit methods considering several limit states. Analytical fragility curves are developed from scaled earthquake records and structural response models. A simplified, single-degree-of-freedom (SD...
متن کاملSEISMIC DESIGN OF DOUBLE LAYER GRIDS BY NEURAL NETWORKS
The main contribution of the present paper is to train efficient neural networks for seismic design of double layer grids subject to multiple-earthquake loading. As the seismic analysis and design of such large scale structures require high computational efforts, employing neural network techniques substantially decreases the computational burden. Square-on-square double layer grids with the va...
متن کاملOptimizing design of 3D seismic acquisition by CRS trace interpolation
Land seismic data acquisition in most of cases suffers from obstacles in fields which deviates geometry of the real acquired data from what was designed. These obstacles will cause gaps, narrow azimuth and offset limitation in the data. These shortcomings, not only prevents regular trace distribution in bins, but also distorts the subsurface image by reducing illumination of the target formatio...
متن کاملSeismic Reliability Analysis of Lifeline Systems
Lifelines are essential to urban life as they include all kinds of facilities and systems as water, gas, fuel, power, communication and transportation. The scope of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the uncertainties of seismic load and damage state definition in system’s reliability. At first, a rapid pre-estimation of the reliability of the system just after the earthquake is conduct...
